Bathukamma Festival
Bathukamma is the most vibrant and culturally significant floral festival celebrated across Medak District and throughout Telangana. Observed during the months of September and October, the festival symbolizes the beauty of nature, the spirit of womanhood, and gratitude for a bountiful harvest. Women and girls gather in colorful traditional attire, preparing beautifully arranged flower stacks known as Bathukammas using a variety of seasonal flowers such as Thangedu, Gunugu, Banthi (Marigold), Chamanthi (Chrysanthemum), and Katla flowers. The celebrations continue for nine days, with each day carrying its own religious and cultural importance. Every evening, women assemble in temples, village centers, parks, and open grounds, placing their Bathukammas in the center while singing traditional folk songs and dancing gracefully in circles. These songs celebrate the glory of Goddess Gauri, local traditions, nature, family values, and the rich cultural heritage of Telangana.
